2001 Honda Civic EX Transmission Dilemma!!!

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and have been researching all over the place(google, all data, youtube, civic forums etc) and no luck, just seems there's never been a direct answer to this issue with this years transmission issue. Okay now i'll get into what the issue is, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear are great.. No noise, no harsh shifting or anything.. When I got the coupe there was very little pedal, and had issues with shifting into 5th gear, it would pop out of gear. I'd bring it back to the shop, put the car in 1st gear then try to go into reverse, and it was almost like there was a wall stopping me from going into reverse, I could sometimes pull it back to where it would engage enough to get it to move into reverse, but then getting the clutch to pop back into neutral was a absolute pain in the butt! So I replaced the slave cylinder, replace the master cylinder, replaced the manual transmission fluid and crush washers, I used the Honda manual transmission fluid as well. The other day I let it sit for a few days(mind you I had no 5th gear or reverse), Drove it and got up to 5th gear and the clutch engaged into 5th and drove great, I got back and then tried to see if reverse would engage, nope still nothing. So I decided to just drive it home that night. Got through 1-4 no issues, went to hit 5th, nothing there, grind noise. Now it wont even lock in and pop out like it was before, is there a linkage issue here? Bent shift fork maybe? Transmissions in my area for this car are like a diamond in the rough lol, so trying to find out if anyone has experienced this issue as well. Any information would be great, thanks all!

Start by inspecting the shift cable linkage on the transmission housing. Here's a read that may be related: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...placement.html

Those early cars could have that issue with the shifter where the pivot ball splits open causing the shift lever to bind....I wonder if that could be happening here.

I've found multiple assembly's that are short throws and when you see down where the ball is, it is packed with a good bit of grease. When I push to 5th or reverse the ball splits, so guess mise well start with that first

That's a parting line...unless it opens up when you shove it into a gear.....
If it opens up, it's junk. Replace it.

Yes it opens up when you go to push it into 5th gear or down to reverse.. Now when i get the new one, should I pack it with grease or anything? Tearing that shift assembly out tonight

Brand new unit from Honda would be already lubed when you get it (you will probably be able to see it).

Open box and install.
