Question Replaced ECU and key lock - Now no crank

2004 Civic 1.7 DX 5 speed.
This car belongs to my 14 year old son. It needs some motor work and was given to him by a family friend who lost the key. The previous owner then took a hammer and screwdriver and tried to break the lock.
I found an ecu and ignition lock assembly (with key) from another car (part numbers were exactly the same) and installed them. Brand new battery, fully charged - was disconnected while the ecu was replaced.
The green key light flashes a couple of times and then goes out. But the motor wont crank over.
What would be the reason the engine won't turn over?

Did the starter EVER work right for you?

Plug in the connector to the original ignition switch (but not the immobi rings) and see if it's just a bad (used) switch?

Clutch switch rubber bumper disc fell apart?

No it never worked. The key lock was totally messed up. The PO wanted to get the steering unlocked so they could push it to our place they used a hammer and screwdriver on it. It never worked and I had to get a key cut for it but it never worked either.
The PO also started to take the top end off the motor so a few connectors were unplugged. Sigh.
I will try the ignition switch connector and also check the clutch pedal switch. I can hear the switch clicking as if it's working.
If the green key icon flashes and goes out, does that mean the immobilizer is OK?

Thanks!

You've never seen it work, ok.

....I'd get a test light and diagnose it like any other no-crank issue.

Correct. Proper operation is described in the owners manual too.
