Break Lights Won't Turn Off.

I have a 94 civic hatchback cx and the break lights will not turn off. I pull the break pedal and it does nothing, the only way I can turn them off is to pull the 15 amp fuse under the hood. So if I don't pull the fuse my battery will go dead and I can't drive around with my break lights on all the time either. Please help.

have you checked the pedal switch? have you ever modified your tail lights? do you happen to have a remote starter?

I would also suggest checking to see if you have a bad ground or something. Did you by chance have your tail lights out any time recently?

They are the factory tail lights and I do not have a remote starter. I went out and checked the pedal switch. I pushed it in and messed with it and the lights are still on. How can I test to make sure that the pedal switch is the problem before I go buy one and install it and find out that it was not the problem? Thanks.

Could try unplugging the pedal switch and see if they go out, that should tell you if its bad or not.

I had a similar problem with my '84 Accord. I could not turn off the parking lights. Turned out that the circuitry inside the steering column overheated over time and a piece of solder fell off and shorted (actually completed) the parking light curcuit. I **** you not. For a while I installed a fuse tap and ran a second switch to the dash with an in-line fuse but then the lights stopped working altogether (the solder moved). When I opened up the steering column I saw what had happened and the dealer confirmed that it was common.

Anyways, just throwing that out there as a possibility.

It was the pedal switch. Thanks to all of you who helped me out on my problem. It's nice to know there is a web site that I can come to for help. Once again thanks everyone for all your help, you saved me some money rather than going to the dealership. You guys are great.
