P1253/P1259 Error Code with non vtec engine

I have a 2003 civic lx that has the D17A1 engine (non vtec) but I'm getting the VTEC SYSTEM B1 FAILURE error code. How is this possible with a non VTEC engine? What can I do about it since my engine does not have the solenoid nor the VVT pressure switch?

I just bought the car!
You bought someone elses problems.

Check the VIN in a parts catalog to see if it truly is an LX (or post/PM and I can check)
Where is the cat located?
Check the PCM part number to see what it is for (Obvious it's for an EX/D17A2, but is the rest of the car wrong or did someone just do a cheap engine swap?)

or put an EX ECU in there. They had 13 years to do stuff in the car

Re: P1259 code on a non vtec engine

I did some checking via the VIN. My car is indeed an EX. So that explains the reason for the mismatch. looks like a cheap engine swap. Now on to the more serious question. The car runs great, no issue except for the CEL being on for the VTEC pressure switch. I have read various forums about people bypassing the switch to get rid of the fault code. Thoughts? anybody know how this is done?

Maybe you could read what those forums say?

If you find a how-to that works, you might post the links or info here so others can benefit from your workaround.
Thanks.

or you could get an ECU from junkyard and try. However, your keys will not work until you reprogram them
