You should be able to use 2 jumper wires to manually open the egr valve....see service info and wiring diagrams

on your scanner app is there any data telling about commanded or desired egr position?
How about actual egr position?
Well, i took the EGR out of my sons car, and the P0404 seemed to dissapear, and then I was getting P0401 code after running for few hours. I would clear it and then sometimes the P0404 OR the P0401 code would come up. I'm gonna take off the intake and clean it all up. I ordered an intake gasket kit. Should be here tomorrow.

I'm also having an issue now that once the car is warmed up, and I come off the highway and I drop to an idle, the oil light flickers a bit. I checked the oil and made sure it was full. I even added a little stp to help it, but still doing it. Could be pressure switch (or could actually be low pressure), or could be the egr could be stuck open a bit. I've got alot of things to do with it this weekend.

As far as the scanner app, it appears that the function to tell EGR position is there, but it's not able to get that data from the ECU.

How many miles on the car and/or engine?

Is the oil pressure sending unit (switch) leaking? Is it bad or flaky, out of range?
Mechanical oil pressure test (analog gauge) on hot engine. If it's truly low.....maybe you found yet another reason someone else got rid of it.

The odometer says it has 135000kms on it (approx 85000miles). The oil pressure switch doesn't seem to be leaking. I'm going to get a mechanical gauge and see if I can install it permanently to monitor the oil pressure. I am beginning to think that the guy I bought it off got it cheap (with a bunch of unknown issues that he was not willing to disclose), and then he tried to fix it up and then realized there was more things wrong with it and too much of a headache, and got rid of it. Funny thing is today, I noticed yellow paint marker on the transmission and some red paint marker on the top of the engine (down by the fuel rail). And I proved that the ECU was from another car already.

I'm going to do a compression check on the engine tomorrow and see if there is something going on there too. The engine could be on its way out as I've noticed (and my son too) that this car does not have as much "Pep" as his civic (stock with no mods). Maybe poor oil flow might be wearing out the engine (compression etc). I might have to search out for a replacement engine. My son agrees and wants me to put in a K20 or B series upgrade...or a d17a2 engine...LOL

Well I took off the intake manifold to see if the EGR passageways were plugged. Guess what I found! The manifold passageways were clean; however, the gasket that was installed did not have the holes for the EGR. So it seems that the gasket was from an older civic (probably 2001-2003...pre-egr), which likely was giving me the problem with the occaisional P0401 code. This is proof that the engine has been molested with. These guys knew enough about the differences between the 2001-2003 and 2004-2005, and did most of the conversion (ECU, and blanking off EGR), but probably ran into the problem of not getting the O2 sensor to work properly (as I know now they are wired differently between 01-03 and 04-05). I guess, if I knew then what I know now, I would have just switched to an older style O2 sensor and re-wired it so it would work properly.

I do have the proper gasket and will be re-installing it later today and possibly tomorrow depending on how cold/tired I get. Hopefully the lagging in power comes back, but I'm thinking this engine came from a junkyard and god knows how many miles are on it (found all kinds of red paint marker written all over engine). I'm going to start looking for a replacement engine/transmission or whole donor car. I've put too much money and time into now and I can't sell it to somebody knowing the history of it now. I suppose I could try to take buddy to small claims court, but how could you prove that he knew about the car's history etc? Lesson learned. I'm getting too old for this crap! lol

I ended up damaging one of the o-rings on the fuel injector and it leaks like a sieve! Waitin on new parts to arrive as nobody local has what I need. I'm hoping that with the egr operating properly, it might help some of my problem. I'll keep you up to date.
