02 Civic LX running with NO OIL. HELP!

I have a 2002 Civic LX with 180k miles. I have had an issue of oil leakage, and recently replaced head gasket. Still occasionally the low oil pressure indicator would flash. I ignored it.

Recently, I was racing the engine and flooring it several times frequently. After about 10 minutes I heard a rattle from the engine bay. When I would press the gas the release the rattle would happen. I also noticed a loss of power at high rpms. The car would run but there was this horrible rattling noise which progressively got louder. After driving 5 miles with this rattle, the engine started shaking the car while it drove, and now the oil pressure indicator was steady, and the check engine light was on. I turned the car off instantly and never turned it on since.

Can I just add 3-4 quarts of oil and then the car will be fine?
If anyone knows what this rattling is please let me know and also if anyone has steps that I should take please let me know. Thank you, and please watch the video to understand the noise after the engine started shaking.

Re: 02 Civic LX running with NO OIL. HELP!

Sounds to me like rod knock. Probably one or two main bearings wiped.

here's what my car sounded like when I developed rod knock. Sounds similar to me

edit: Looks like your check engine light is flashing, too. Means you have a misfire that can damage your cat.

Yep thanks guys..
Spoke to a mechanic and said I would need to replace the engine, and that will cost me more than what the car is worth so going to donate it.

Re: 02 Civic LX running with NO OIL. HELP!

Yeah, I fixed mine by swapping out the bottom end with a spare engine I had in my dad's garage.

What is done is done...

Good luck. If the fix have issues, ask us again...

Don't let a leak go without a good fix. If you do, you will need to be careful on what you do. Ends up a lot more expensive than fixing the leak... as you now know
