oil leak...

I have a small oil leak, it looks like it gotten worse with the cold weather. I am not sure where it is coming from exactly as it is very small leak but I wiped the area where that round black plug is, I took it for a ride and the leak started to originate from there it seems:

How do I fix that? any advise on what exactly is leaking?

thanks.

man this car is more trouble then I need, I guess thats what happens when you buy a car for 2k.

BTW: it a civic 2002 lx coupe, 1.7 L .

Re: oil leak...

I read this post before I posted, but I have no idea of the location of the leak in the posted picture as it is very zoomed in.

Re: oil leak...

It looked about the same as yours with an extreme close up (LOL), and yours doesn't have an EGR valve in the way where the other poster did have EGR in the way.

Re: oil leak...

I recalled my car for a passenger airbag, and I noticed in the inspection they mentioned that I have oil leak from right cam seal ( which I already knew) and rocker cover? where is rocker cover? is that valve cover gasket?

I'll toss out 2 guesses:

1) Maybe they just listed everything that can leak oil to that spot. If it's messy and not definitely one item or the other, we tend to err on the side of caution and list all.
The price is higher but it covers our asses.
Covering our asses is extremely important.
Plus, rubber gaskets are well known to harden and leak, this fixes 2 of them.

2) One person I worked with refused to just pop out that cam plug for fear the little tab that breaks off will be swallowed and somehow ruin the engine. He always estimated to pull the valve cover to change that plug and fish out the broken pieces.

Same $ estimate from both angles?

You as the car owner have the freedom to purchase a whole job package per their estimate, purchase individual jobs from that estimate, question their estimates (I'm from Missouri: SHOW ME!) or just say no altogether and DIY as you wish or go to a different shop. Or ignore it and let it leak.

HTH

Spray can of brake cleaner works wonders at getting oil mess cleaned up.
