If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Um, they weren't intended to be links, that was an accident. Supposed to have been copy & paste the words.....Oops.

ezone & co.,
Timing belt. Apparently it jumped off track at some point during this whole ordeal. They got it back on but the condition of the belt was in question, so they're putting a new one in.
Kinda pissed, because (Dunno if I mentioned this) but I got these replaced last spring. Same mechanic. And yes, that has already been brought up. Thankfully it shouldn't cost as much as a PCM replacement, and hopefully the guy is honest enough to cut some off of the bill, knowing he just replaced this belt not even 10k miles ago.

So....MULTIPLE issues all caused (apparently) by the person that did the timing belt job.
Written warranty policy of the shop (if 12/12 or better) will cover all these problems?
Why did it jump time this time?
Is this a manual trans car?

this shouldnt cost you one penny in my opinion, you paid them to do a job, and that job was not done correctly
a timing belt does not "jump time" if the job is done properly

He's not charging me very much, so i'm not going to worry too much about it.
Its a manual, zone. 5-speed.
Also: Apparently my alternator is bad. He was saying that would cost me about 300 bucks after labor and everything, so I told him I'd do that myself. so I'm going to change that soon.

WHAT is this guy doing to fix the timing belt?
WHY did it jump time?
And do you trust the same person that left all the other problems, to get it right....this time?
Are you going to be back with the same issues again in another 3-10,000 miles?

"Not charging very much" for warranty work that *by all rights* should be ZERO cost to yourself? (What is their written warranty policy again?)

You know, if that timing belt is getting replaced again then the alternator will have been removed already. One more nut for the big wire and it is literally out of the car. No extra labor to swap it if it is apart to that point. Of course, if the timing belt is not getting replaced, the alt may not be coming off of the engine.
Manual trans car: If you leave it in the wrong gear on an incline--without the handbrake set-- the engine can slowly spin backwards and COULD throw the belt timing......I know another manufacturer has had this issue, but I don't believe I have ever witnessed it on a Honda.

When I got to the shop yesterday I asked about a warranty on his work. And he told me he does a 12/12. The reason why my timing belt wasn't covered is the following:
TL;DR: Over-accelerated one day in the pouring rain and blew my engine, had to get a new one.
I didn't mention this because I didn't think it was relevant to the situation, but sometime in last June I drove my car through what was essentially a giant lake that had formed across most of the road I was on. No, I wasn't driving very fast, but yes, I probably could have driven slower. I did not realize how deep the water was until I went through it, and my car started acting funky. At the time, I was a bus driver for my college, so my first impulse was to somehow get it to my work (where we have mechanics and stuff) so they could check it out.
Turned out I poked a hole about the size of a nickel in the bottom of my engine block, so maybe a month of two after I got the water pump/timing belt replaced, I had this issue. The engine in my car actually has around 4k less mileage than the rest of it.
------------------
I was under the impression that the timing belt and water pump would still have some sort of warranty, but apparently not after he had to put a new block in. But I definitely have one for this timing belt, he said.
Here's the thing: Trust me, 0 dollars is better than paying however much I paid for the fix. I know that. But I also know at the stage I was at, and now where I am, there wasn't any point in throwing accusations out and causing a ruckus.

The SAME person that did the first timing belt also did this engine replacement work----were the timing components swapped from the old engine to the new (used) engine? (Assuming yes since they were new? IDK if this is actually true though.)
Assuming that was a Yes answer, then IMHO (ethical issue) it should still be covered by his own warranty. Workmanship and/or parts he installed were the cause of all these current problems (from what I have gathered here thus far, except the actual failure of the alternator.....IMO that should be a "parts only" charge since it is off the engine already).
OTOH, warranting any job "costs" the shop money. Finding any reason to deny coverage is to his advantage. Just like the big insurance companies.
Sometimes I have issues with decisions that are made by others here in this shop, and I am known to loudly voice my opinions.....
Oh hell, as long as YOU are happy with the outcome, I should shut up.
