not starting

i have a 2006 honda civic lx 2d which developed a starting problem. Actually its starting for like 4 sec and then shut off. it has a green key on dash. First i thot it was the key which i went to the dealer to get an extra. They told me they cant programme the key without the car which i towed to them. after 3 days, they called me, the problem was not the key but something to do with wiring harness. They told me that the key is not communicating with the computer.
They cud now solve the problem by changing the, fusebox, wiring harness and the computer and the cost was beyond my reach. i took the car home.
Its bn now 2 months and am still stuck, I wud appreciate any help from you guys

Re: not starting

Well since the key directly to the ecu, I would go to the junkyard and get a new one. Wait until some of the other guys post I don't know much about the immobilizer system

Re: not starting

I think someone that doesn't know much about the system tried to fire the parts cannon at your car.

Handy pic of a parts cannon:

On the other hand, sometimes there isn't a whole lot of info about diagnosing this crap either. I kinda feel for the tech....only a little. Many times it comes down to replacing parts after checking wire continuity here and there. I HAVE had to replace multiple units in the same car to solve just one problem.
But I think your guy just guessed at the entire list of possibilities. A wiring harness? Seriously? I wanna see proof that it is bad.

-------------------------------

Does this sound like what happened in the beginning?

The engine does not start, and the immobilizer
indicator is blinking (especially if the battery recently
went dead and the engine was jump-started).

This problem occurs only if all these conditions
are met:
• The security system is set.
• The battery goes dead.
• Battery power is connected to the vehicle, then
disconnected in a very short period of time
(milliseconds).

Sound like what happened when this first became a problem?

Read up: http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/Ho...1940_immob.pdf

Read the entire bulletin carefully. Read about the symptoms under the heading for your particular car.
If this fits you, it gets a fusebox (MICU). I have done exactly one of these, and pretty recently too. One other has been in the shop for the same thing in the last year too.

Looks like just the part is $221 USD here. Labor not included in that price.
The new part must be programmed by the dealers HDS scanner!! (read the bulletin).

Might I suggest finding a different dealer?
One that employs a rocket scientist, perhaps?

Re: not starting

Hey hey buddy I was thinking logically. The immobilizer is inside the ecu, and if the problem is that the key can't connect, wouldnt it be the ecu? It seems like the ecu is shutting the car off on purpose because the ecu cannot detect if it has the right key in.

Op - do whatever ezone says he seems to know his ****

Type 6 Immobilizer, rolling code transponder type.
The major parts are:
Immobilizer-keyless control unit (the part that reads the key)
MICU (Multiplex control unit, part of the dash fuse&relay box)
PCM (Powertrain Control Unit)

Ummmmm Read more here: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/...am/A06-011.pdf

It seems like the ecu is shutting the car off on purpose because the ecu cannot detect if it has the right key in.
PCM (ecu) shuts off fuel injection because it did not receive the correct data from the rest of the Immobilizer system.
Not the fault of the PCM in this case, it's only doing what it was programmed to do.
IF the bulletin matches the OP's problem.
That bulletin was all I could find that was even close to helpful.

Thanks, yo! But the dealer is the place for this kind of work, 99.9% of independent shops can't touch it.
Average Joe can't just swap some parts and expect it to work either.
Too bad OP sounds like he got a raw deal on the first try.
