I have a 97 civic with a b16a2 and sometimes i have to pop the clutch to start it and sometimes it starts without popping the clutch.they told me that its a bad starter solenoid but i don't know. Now about the ticking every time i rev my car it ticks near the distributor but not loud. my buddy told me it could be a valve adjustment a messed up lift or a rod knock can anyone tell me what the hell is going on with my car.

-Probably a bad starter solenoid
-Start with a valve adjustment and look for any discrepancies (one set of valves darker than the rest, any scoring, anything bent, etc) while in there. If you still have ticking do a compression test then a leak-down test if you're losing compression in one of the cylinders. Youtube is great place for videos on compression and leak-down tests.
-You're in the wrong forum. This is the 7th gen forum and you need to be in the 6th gen forum.
-Find MelJ and download the service manual from his sig if you don't already have one.
