Advice? 170k

So, I went and had my oil leak checked out and they told me it was the front main seal... Everything I've read says that at 170k, I need to replace water pump and timing belt. I haven't had any problems with either though. What should I do?! I have an 02 Civic Ex with 170k.

Have you replaced anything on the car? Good thing to do is preventive maintenance waiting till a problem occurs could lead to more expensive repairs.

Re: Advice? 170k

If its your front main seal, then it is you crankshaft seal. I have this same issue as well, it makes your serpentine belt area very messy to work with.

Since your at 170k kilometers, your within the range of requiring a timing belt change. To save you money I would do the tb change/water pump/seal all at the same time. They are all relatively close to each other. I wish I would have done mine as preventative when I was due for a tb change, mine started leaking after the tb was replaced..doh.

Do a search for "crankshaft seal" and you should find my 6-7 month old post showing my crankshaft oil leak. cheers.

If you do you might as well change the camshaft seal as well and your other two belts and change out your TDC sensor as well while they are doing all that so you won't get an extra charge later. If you are seeing leaks might as well go with changing you valve cover gaskets if they haven't been replaced.
