Rear marker/running lights perpetually on

Hey guys,
I have an 01 civic lx and the title pretty much sums it up. The rear running lights are on with or without the key in the ignition. Truly perpetual. I just unplug them when it's day or when i'm not driving and plug them in when i'm driving at night (duh).
Anyways, it's been two days and i'm over doing all that... I no longer talk to my mechanic and i'm not too sweet with electrical work. I would appreciate any help. I searched and couldn't find a related problem on the web or in this forum: If anyone has a link to such a thread or any help that is appreciated.

Re: Rear marker/running lights perpetually on

sounds like they are wired in wrong...instead of getting out to plug them in and out...why dont you just wire up a switch inside the car...be like turning fog lights on and off...

Would need to know if it is brake lamps ? (you did not mention any lights in front being on ) or tail lights ? which should also have on front marker lamps.

If it is brake lights then inspect the operation of the switch above the brake pedal, Make sure the plunger is moving when the pedal moves.

Re: Rear marker/running lights perpetually on

Hey all, thanks for the replies!

I don't know about the wiring as they haven't had any issues up to this point.

As far is front running lights and brake lights, all are in order. It is just the rear running lights which is why i find it so weird. I will check the switch above the brake pedal when i get a chance.

Re: Rear marker/running lights perpetually on

Are the license plate lights on by chance ?? (same circuit as taillights)

Tail lights = dim
Brake lights = bright

It would not be likely to have rear tails on and not have front markers on at same time (common circuit for tails, front & side markers & license plate lights)
