civic door sensor problem

I noticed yesterday after accidentally leaving my keys in my car at school the door sensor isn't working. I looked more into it and it seems like the whole sensor on the driver's side got pushed in and fell into the body. How would I go about getting this out? i tried fishing it out with my finger through the little whole but the dumb thing just fell further down into the body, and I have no clue how to pull something off to get better access to that whole section so I can put it back on.
I figured it should be relatively simple, but I don't wanna screw anything up nor do i wanna get raped by the honda dealership for fixing something like this that i assume would be really easy..

edit: it's a 2003 civic EX coupe (EM2) if it matters

Re: civic door sensor problem

prob gunna have to take off the door panel. its fairly simple. someone correct me if im wrong but there should b 2 screws to pull out. there should b a screw behind a tiny cover in the handle u pull to open the door an one in the tray of the handle to close the door b careful prying them open the dealership screwed mine pretty bad. but take them out an after that it should just b clips holding it on use a flathead screwdriver wraped in a rag so u dun scratch ur paint a pry it off around the door. dun just rip it off as all the wires r attached for power locks or whatever. u may have to slice a peice of plastic to reach in but u should b able to get to where ur part is. there is prob a better diy on here somewhere. but this is the basics

Re: civic door sensor problem

thanks, but I don't think it's the door panel i'd have to remove, the sensor that fell off was in the actual body of the car, not the door. there is a little thing on the actual door that when closed, is suppose to push in a pin on the body of the car so it knows the doors closed

Re: civic door sensor problem

well I can't really do that since I can't reach and grab the wiring harness from the inside unless I can find out how to take a frame or something off to get better access to it. :P
I'm pretty sure the sensor itself is fine too, if I can figure out how to get to it down there i'm pretty sure it would be fine, if not though, i would do that

Re: civic door sensor problem

Maybe a stiff wire with hook down opening to try to snag wire and pull it up.

Re: civic door sensor problem

i feel your pain as this very same thing happened to me a couple of years back. what i did was to go to the auto parts store to see if you can find a tool that is telescoping and has a small hook on the end (kind of looks like a dentist's tool they use to clean your teeth). now all you need is a little finesse and a lot of patience.

if you can hook the wire/pressure switch and get it to a point to at least be able to disconnect the bad switch. I couldn't get the switch itself back out of the cutout in the frame, so after disconnecting the connector, the bad switch has become a lifetime passenger.

The new switch was like $6 dollars from the dealership. Just called with make model and what you need and picked up the part. then as you would suspect, just connect the switch and snap it in place (again, a little finesse so the cheap plastic clip doesn't snap off).

best of luck.
