Replacing headlight column switch 02 ex
Replacing headlight column switch 02 ex
My high beams don’t work, I posted this problem a while ago. I now figure the combination headlight switch in the steering column is the culprit, but really have no way of testing this theory other than replacing the switch. The parts guy at the dealer tells be they sell a lot of these switches so this reinforces my belief the switch is faulty.
Yea I’ve checked everything else, it all leads to the switch.
So, for $90 the dealer will definitively diagnose the problem, or I can just buy the switch for $55 and replace it myself.
How hard is it get at the switch? My shop manual really doesn’t offer much help..
Thanks,

Not sure if I saw, or contributed to your other post or not ??
I'm guessing you have tried the bulbs ??
You could try grounding the RED/BLU at pin 4 of the headlight switch connector and see if the high beams come on. (it is the high beams line from the bulbs)
The switch replacement is easy except for the column covers which suck. The switch is 2 screws and 1 connector, pull switch forward.

Download the civic manual, not the one that comes in the glovebox, the one that tells you how to take the car apart. (I'm totally at a loss for words right now if you couldnt tell)

I have the on-line version of the shop manual, goes into some really great detail but no great when it comes to the headlights...the relay and fuses are all fine so that’s why I’m leaning toward replacing the switch.
It did get me through changing out the rear struts real fine, but in some area's it lacks detail or requires you have a degree in electrical engineering.

Here is some factory info.
The column covers you remove screws fromt bottom & push in near the top and bottom seams to release latches (if your lucky)

The recall only affects 01s and some early 02s.
And, is for loss of low beams only.
What about your flash option ?? Is it working ?? There are a couple methods of switching in high beams.
I would provide a quick ground to the wire I mentioned in case it is not the switch.

I replaced the switch today, which fixed the problem. Broke some the tabs on the plastic top piece of the column, secured it in place with a couple drops of super glue, should hold fine... I can’t figure how you would get the column apart without breaking a couple of the tabs.
Eather way I am happy with the results!!!
