I was wondering what mods would I need to do if I switch to the auto on/off headlights used on the newer Civic models? I currently have a 2001 Civic.

Yes those. What parts would I need and what years would match up to the electrical wiring of the 2001? I seen similar on a 2006 Chevy Uplander that I used to drive.

01 had it's own separate control module (Canada Models)

Just get in the habit of turning on your headlights, people are stupid and will still pull out regardless.

The headlight on warning will prompt you to turn them off.

otherwise you would need a 12volt relay and some electrical skills.

the relay gets wired to the battery and gets spliced into the wire for the low beam headlights. then you need a trigger wire from the ignition most likely. this way when the ignition is on the lights get power from the battery and when it's off they don't have any power at all.

Programing as in what the car's CPU or a sensor on the switch or windshield/windscreen?

If you are looking for auto on during the night you will need something like this:




Wire that to the power that runs to the relay that powers up the lights.

Thank you I checked it out. Where would you place it so it will detect the amount of light? In the grill near the horn or on the dashboard?

I would try the grill since its a big ugly sensor that will be hard to place on the dash without cutting a hole and making it flush.

You might be able to place it in the cowl between the hood and windshield.

depends if oncoming headlights will turn the sensor off. i would wire it up and then shine a flash light on it to see if it turns off.

Maybe on the back dash would be better. this way it's out of the way and won't get direct light other than sunlight.
