Front Shock Boot

Hey guys!

I was swapping out my studded tires for my summer tires today, and noticed that the driver side shock boot (I think that's what its called....) is torn. Compared to the passenger side it looks like about half of it is missing... Is this something I need to get fixed soon, or is it not a big deal? It looks to me like the only way to change it would be to take the shock off, is that right?

I've attached a picture of it if that helps... Thanks!

Re: Front Shock Boot

To replace it you have to jack the car, remove the tire and brake assembly, take the tierod out (which usually results in messing the boot up on that if not breaking it entirely), unbolting the shock from the top, using a spring compressor to take the top mount part off, swapping it out, and then doing everything in reverse order- which the spring compression is the biggest PITA. Most ppl just let it go, but if your concerned about dirt and grime getting in the shock, just retro a little skirt and attach it to the existing part of the boot.
