Exclamation Windshield wiper problems

Hi, I have a 2001 Civic and when I turn on my windshield wipers, they're hitting the side pillars and the bottom plastic. I just recently noticed this after I had a company come out to my house and change out my front windshield because of a giant crack in the middle of the glass.

He changed it in early spring when it wasn't raining so I hadn't noticed this problem, but just a couple of months ago I started using my windshield wipers and now they're hitting the plastics. I read the threads here regarding windshield wipers and aligned them as much as I could. The passenger wiper is now perfect, but the driver's side is hitting both the pillar and the bottom plastic/passenger wiper. If I push it slightly up, it'll only hit the side pillar. If I push it slightly down, it'll only hit the bottom plastic. So, I tried to get it in the middle and now it's hitting both. Is the motor messed up or something? Because I tried aligning it straight in the middle and it's still hitting both! The wiper plastic is fairly new so I don't think that's a problem and I did this outside while it was raining so the wipers had something to work with. Any help would be appreciated!

(Please don't flame! This is my first question since I normally do thorough reading before posting. I did use the search button and read as much as possible; even did google searches in other car forums and no help!)

Thanks!

Re: Windshield wiper problems

you can reduce the length/size of the blade to go onto your wiper arm; its also less work for your wiper motor to do; if that makes ya feel better. idk what else to add....Wiper blades are cheap,Hope that helps good luck.

Re: Windshield wiper problems

something got messed up in the motor travel area, i think somethings loose or out of spec and no amount of adjusting is gonna fix. may have to replace the arm and possibly the motor if the gear teeth are messed up.

Check the nuts under the plastic caps. Maybe they did not tighten them down.

Re: Windshield wiper problems

Yay, replies! Thanks everyone for your input and help. I was thinking about changing the windshield wiper arms but that wouldn't fix it because when I put the wipers on high speed, half of the wiper goes over the entire pillar. I did check that the nuts were on tight and that still didn't fix it.

It's been raining a lot here the past couple of weeks because of the tropical storms and hurricanes (Orlando) and it's been annoying the crap out of me even when I crank up the music. I'll probably have it checked out by Honda within the next week. Thanks again for all your help!

Re: Windshield wiper problems

I'll try calling them to see if they can fix it...but it's been a couple of months so I don't know if they'll do it. If that fails, I'll just have Honda repair it. Thanks for your help.

Re: Windshield wiper problems

The linkage in your wiper transmission probably has a plastic retainer ring that has come loose, allowing the metal arm to fall over the metal pivot ball. Need to pop the arm off of the metal pivot ball, clean up the assembly, and glue the plastic retainer ring back onto the arm. This will keep the arm in its original place and will stop the slack movement.
