Have I destroyed my engine?????
Have I destroyed my engine?????
I changed the oil and filter in my 2004 Civic Hybrid a little while ago as I always do. Except this time, I spaced out and cranked it up to back it off of the ramps WITHOUT ANY OIL IN IT!!! It ran about 15 seconds and then died. I realized what I'd done, put the oil in and cranked it. It ran 3-4 seconds and then died. I did this 5 or 6 more times because it was acting like it might start. By now I'm freaking out and instead of stopping and going in the house, I pumped the accelerator a few times and cranked it again. It coughed a few times and kind of backfired. Have I just bought myself an engine?

well if the oil pump wasnt able to pick up any oil then it could just be dry so it cant create a vacuum. You need to prime the system by cranking the engine with the ECU fuse pulled out for about 30 seconds. Ive seen a few people have that happen. One was even at a honda dealer they forgot to put oil in. after an inspection they figured that it was fine but gave the guy an extended warrenty just incase
