Possible 7th Gen. Owner

Hello, i've been crusing the board alot lately and it's nice to see that you 7th gen owners aren't destroying your cars with rice! My bro showed me this site, he has a black 01 lx. my mx3 tranny is dying and the car is worth just a tad bit more money compared to replacing the tranny. a 7th gen civic is a definate possiblity when the tranny dies, soon i think. i've looked at the parts available off the forum, nopi, overboost etc. and i was wondering if 180-200hp was a realistic goal as of now with basic bolt-ons. i know the aftermarket support is still young and growing at this point, but how much money would it take to reach this goal? i don't want any forced induction...no nitrious! any help would be greatly appreciated!

nice to hear you're interested in the 7th gens i think it would be possible to get in the 170-180 hp range if ur going all-motor IMO. you'll need to do all that porting and polishing and boring maybe.

hitting 180-200WHP isn't gonna be easy without FI. Honda got 170 at the flywheel out of a D17A2 by Putting in a new intake manifold, new exhaust, Plus Port Polished and Decked. but new internal componants will be coming out shortly from brands such as crower, so the potential could be growing. A swap may be possible but it would be crazy expensive. You could wait for the new Si, which is cool, and has more potential.

As of now, I don't think there's a single member here with anything close to 180WHP without NOS.

thanks for the quick replies! yea, i'm concerned that port, polish, bore, etc would void the warranty. is the engine the main reason for the ulev or is it the exhaust system? because someone said that at best, headers would add 5 hp? i was thinking more around 10ish. oh, anyone know what a stock ex runs the 1/4 in?

I think it runs lowish 16s (16.3 or so), but the members here don't often make it out to the track (I've never been myself), so those are just rough numbers. yea, Port and Polish, or any other internal mods will definatly void the warranty. Also, you won't get 10hp from headers on our cars (or almost any other civic out there), that's almost a 10% increase in power from a $200-300 bolt on. If you did I/H/E, Pullies, and ECU, you might be sitting at around 130-140WHP, but that's somewhat optimistic already. Basic Bolt ons just don't do much to our cars. You can probably get decent gains out of removing the emissions, but that's illegal and would do some warranty voiding also.

I'll be blunt...

No, 180-200 hp is NOT a realistic goal right now without the use of N2O...

The only parts available for the motor are a header exhaust and intake - as well as a cam gear...

A motor swap isn't feasable

The promise of turbos is still there, but there hasn't been any follow through at all as of yet, and it will be more than a year before jackson will have the blower on the market (if at all).

If you are looking for that power range now I suggest you go get an RSX or an 02 1.8t product from VW. Getting a more powerfull car right away is a far more cost effective way of getting power than adding bolt ons.

why wait until the tranny dies, you might be able to trade it in as if the tranny is fine and get some money for it now
