Rear suspension squeeks!
Rear suspension squeeks!
This is driving me crazy. I live in the north (actual north) and it's really cold here all the time. Anytime it dips below -27C or so (which is every night), the rear suspension creeks and squeeks and makes every sort of annoying sound it can possibly make when going over the SLIGHTEST bump!! as soon as it warms up to -20 (every day typically) or so, the squeeks go away, everything is happy. One time it dipped down to -40 and the sound was unbearable! The roads aren't the best quality here, so the suspension has to really work.
Also when it dips below -27, after running the car on the highway to work, the clutch will be hard to push in, and then it sticks down, after releasing my foot it takes a good second and a half for the clutch to let go and the clutch will engage. This doesn't bug me as much.
I just bought this car back in July (2007). It's an 2004 Civic Si-G 5-spd Coupe (Or EX for you US guys). Suspension is completely stock, and it's riding on stock 15" alloys with stock size Michellin X-ICE winter tires (the only mod I've done to the car).
After searching to see if I was the only guy with this problem, I only found one thread:
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...uspension+cold
but this guy says he has performance problems... I haven't noticed any handling problems at all.
Please save me before I shoot my suspension

Re: Rear suspension squeeks!
The temps your talking about are likely causing the rubber and metal parts in the suspension to expand and contract, how many miles on the car and shocks?
Re: Rear suspension squeeks!
Email that to me if you could. LS1blackz28@aol.com

Re: Rear suspension squeeks!
Wait... you have 2 things there, the rear sway and the rear arm pivot point. Anywa, throw some oil there and see if they improve. you could do one at a time so you know which one is it, but i guess you are pointing the rear arm pivot. Go easy, BTW if you try to take the bolt out - it is welded on the back side, and the weld sometimes break. took me a vise grip to take it out when installing my progress rear sway...
