Help, Truck Release Does not work.

Hi, can anyone help me with my trunk release. I locked it and now it does not unlock. So now when i pull the lever for the trunk nothing happens, it will not move. The only way for me to open the trunk is to stick the key in from the back of the car. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? and will it be expensive?

I have a 2001 civic lx coupe, canadian model

Thanks in advance,

Okita

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

should be a place where you can put your key in on the trunk/gas release insert the key and then turn to the left i belive is the ulock then it should relase normally after you unlock it.

In lamens terms do exactly what you did to lock it in reverse

hope im right and this helps

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

The guy said he can't unlock it.....

You need to provide more information like what happens when you try to unlock it. Does the key turn and it doesn't unlock, or does the key not turn because of resistance? Try taking it apart, you can do it in just a few minutes by removing the plastic parts.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

Hi Dex,
thanks for the quick response. As for what happen: I stuck my key in it and turned it then turned it back, then 2 hours later I tried to open trunk and it would not open. So i stuck the key in it to see if i locked it. I can put the key in fine withi no resistance and turn it both ways but it does not let me unlock the trunk. I am not really mechanically inclined but how do i take it apart and what do i do after i take off the plastic thing.

I can get into the trunk, I just have to go outside and stick the key in to open it.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

i read somewhere on this site about that little lock near the lever getting full of sand, dirt, whatever, and this happening. you're not the first to have this problem. as soon as i read that, i decided never to mess with the thing. as far as what to do, you're going to have to take it apart, i think. that was a good link, as it should show the inner workings of the lock/lever assembly on the floor. Or, i guess you could just stick to unlocking it at the trunk, tho i could see that becoming a huge pain in the ***.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

i think it's the lock itself that's fubar'd. i think you should use the installation instructions on the site, as a guide for taking it apart, and looking at it, to see if you can manually unlock it by turning the cylinder, or something, before you buy anything.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

all self taught baby, im kinda mechanically inclined, but ive worked with cars for a living for the last 6 years, so that helps, plus i work at a ford dealership, which helps too, but u dont learn from not doing, u learn from diving in, making mistakes, and getting ur hands dirty, get urself a haynes manual, some tools, hand cleaner, and dive in, ull learn a lot, and maybe save some money too

I have one last question. When you turn the key to unlock the trunk and pull the lever, does the lever move or does it feel the same as when it's locked?

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

Ok here is what you do take your ignition key and climb into the back seats on the back dash there is a lock to unlock the back seats and fold them down.
Crawl into the trunk there is an emergency lever located on the latch of the trunk pull it and your trunk will open.
or you can just open it from outside lol.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

when the release is locked, it shouldnt pull up at all, at least mine doesnt, i bet the cable broke free from teh latch, there are two cables attached to teh lever, one for the trunk and one for the gas door, i bet the trunk release one is either broken, or pulled free, id take it apart and check, i bet the holder on the latch is broken

if he can't pull it up, like he said, it's still locked. it's not a cable issue. the cable is still firmly attached to the lever, and to the latch inside the trunk. take the damned thing apart, and fvck with the lock near the lever inside the car.

Re: Help, Truck Release Does not work.

I have a TSB that pertains to similar problem, it shows removal procedure and other info on the trunk/fuel release assembly. It sounds like the lock is somehow bound up.

It is not in PDF format, but would be willing to scan if someone needs it let me know.
