check engine light
check engine light
My wifes 98 civic EX had the check engine light come on while here mother was in town and driving it. I think she might have just not tightened the gas cap at some point. Anyway I disconnected the battery and light stayed of and has stayed off for a couple weeks. Do I need to take it and get the codes read or should I not worry about it unless the light comes back on? By the way it rolled 90k miles while she was driving it......could that have effected it?
Do you have a chilton manual? I'm not sure which year they changed but some of the cars actually had light that blinks under the dash to let you know what code it is. A chilton manual will tell you how to check it, I would recommend doing that since most place are gonna charge at least $50 to hook it up to a reader.. kinda of useless, especially if your system using the blinking lights. If you don't have a Chilton manual I recommend getting one, or at least go an auto parts store to see if they have one open you can look at. AutoZone usually has them open on the shelf.
