Installing Fog lights gone horribly WRONG, NEED HELP
Installing Fog lights gone horribly WRONG, NEED HELP
THis past weekend, I bought some Fog lights from EBAY(yes, i know i shouldn't have, but i tried it anyway). and everything seemed cool through most of the installation. But when i tried hooking everything up(while following instructions), something burned up. Now the back like for my gauges on my Tach and Speedo are off(and all the needle's lights are off too) when I use my parking lights or headlights. only the temp and gas gauge light works, all the little lights work too.
I figured if there was an electrical problem, the fuse would popped, but it didn't. It just let the electricity through and now I am stuck where I am. Nay help you guys.
-Did i burn some wiring, or is it the lights behind the cluster gauge(if any).
-Do i need to buy a new cluster gauge?
-don't really have many options left, might have to take to dealership. Will this void warrenty if i tried to install?
-speaking of which, the cables for the foglights that i have came up short, so i also need to find a way to extend them, but first the cluster gauge needs to work, cuz i can't see how fast i am going at night....=\
anyhelp would be great fellas and gals.

well i took it to my school and we checked all the fuses and such. all checked out fine. we whipped out the ETM and checked out the diagram, it appears that there is a CPU that controls the lighting. So yeah im pretty ****ed, so my best plan is to take out the foglights and say some wierd **** happened with the car one night, its still under warrenty i think, 3 years or 50k if im not mistaken right/

get universal fog wire harness from www.suvlights.com
for cluster, there are 5 bulbs in the back. try to replace the ones that are off, maybe its just burnt bulb? they just twist off the board and you can change it.

i believe the factory warranty is actually 2 years/24K miles. the warranty goes to 7 years/100K miles if you get the extended warranty.
try to change the bulbs in the back of the cluster like Gearbox said, and check the relays. its a lot cheaper than going to the dealer (last resort).
i've installed the ebay foglights on my friend's coupe before. the wire harness does fit, but like you said, it is a stretch. i thought it wouldnt reach before too, but if you guide the wire in the "straightest" line to get through the firewall, it will just barely reach.

if you guys are having problems with the crap ebay sends, just buy a new harness from suvlights.com with relays. easiest thing ever to hook up. just power and ground, then one power to each light, and ground the light. then one turnon wire like parking light or a switch. super easy. i used it to wire my hids in about 30 mins.
well ok bad news..........my parents finally found out that i did something to my car....so now they just want me to take it in tommorow morning, first thing, and if what you say is true about the warrenty, then there is no point to make my car look like stock ( might as well leave the evidence where it is and fess up) make it easier on the tech that has to fix my problem.......well i want my car back to normal, at first blown out lights for my gauges looked awsome at night(so dark) but i miss seeing the needles and the colors. anyways ill pay for it, im hoping its just blown bulbs ( won't be expensive) but labor(OMG that is HIGHWAY ROBBERY), and if not those, then its the CPU and computers are expensive. meh......last time i buy crap**ahem**great merchandise from ebay** for my car that is...... well thanks for all the help you guys.....

well the bulb is easy to change. it takes 5 minutes and they are gonna charge an hour just to look at it. or it might even be a fuse. i would check yourself before taking it in. they might not even find the problem. and why leave evidence? put it back to stock take off all the fog light stuff and say idk what happened the gauge light is out. they theyll fix under warranty.
