Stick will only go into park sometimes????????

I have an auto 2001 EX civic. Just recently my auto tranny gave out on me so I had it replaced with another one. Well now there's something up with my Park gear. Sometimes I can get into it and sometimes I can't. Today I drove to the gym and I tried to put it in park but it wouldn't go. Frantically I tried moving it with force but it didn't budge. It said it was in Drive still when I know I moved it up to Reverse. So I was there for about 30 min trying to get it to move but it wouldn't. I then found out about the override thing on the left of the stick. So after trying that I still couldn't get it into park. So I put it into Neutral and started the car and got home. I went to put it into park and what did you know...it did it just fine. So I put it back into drive and park and it did it just fine. I did this for 5 times and all 5 times it parked just fine. BTW my driveway is on a slant if that had anything to do with it. If I take it back to the guy that did my tranny swap he can't charge me for it right?

When in drive is the position of the floor shifters indicator lined up correctly with D ??

It may need the linkage adjusted.

Yes it is and another thing. My shifter is loose now. Before the swap it wouldn't budge at all but I can tap it up and down but it won't switch go to N or D2. It's just loose now.
