Question Speedometer help.

I need some help. My speedometer dose not work, until the car warms up. I talked to a honda tech, about the vss. He said if it is bad my odometer will go too. My odometer works fine. Any help appreciated.

He's right, if the vss sensor goes generally the odometer goes too. But since you have a digital odometer, that may not be the case. In any case, from here I can say ti could be a couple of things: loose wire, fualty guage cluster, bad sending unit, bad sensor, ect. The problem is that you will need to take everything apart and see where the signal is going bad. DO you notice anything else wrong with the car? Slight shaking when stopped at a red light or anything liek that?

No other problems. I took the cluster out and checked for loose wires. It all looked good.

If the ODO is o.k. and the speedo not, my thinking is the cluster is getting the pulses from the speed sensor (same as VSS ??) You said you had it in and out, I was going to say to re-seat connectors.

I posted how to do a cluster diagnostic some time ago. Right now I have no idea how to find that post. If someone remembers it, please copy and paste it here. It lets you check the entire cluster including the comm line to the ecu.

thanks will search for the post. If I need a new cluster, would you recommend swapping one with the stock tach. I have dx and thought about aftermarket tach.

Stock tach is much cleaner. And it plugs right in.
