Need help... weird pinging sound

Every time that I accel. I hear a high pitched ping. What's weird though is that depending on how hard I press the accel. pedal, the tone of the sound changes. I can actually damn near create a song by accelerating. At this point I'm thinking it's got to be something having to do with my accel, but I have no idea what. Sorry if this has already been discussed, I tried searching, but what exactly do I search under for my problem???

pinging, hmm?

does it kinda sound like a bunch of pennies in a can being shaken up?

perhaps you may have some bent valves? ... have you ever mis-shifted?

Pinging is because there is something wrong with your engine. You better get that checked ASAP or you might blow it entirley.

yeah, that's not a good thing, get that checked out ASAP.

Possible causes could be bad bearing, pre-ignition, bent valves, many many other things too. I would get that looked at. Just remember that it may cst less to replace your engine than fix it in some cases.

thanks guyz for ur feedback.....

just went to honda service center and checked....they said its a normal sound. tested another civic 1.7 and kinda (kinda means maybe my ears has gotten accustomed to the sound) actually hear the sound as well.

but still not too satisfied bout it. hope there is nuthin wrong. the sound is
actually like putting a small pebble in a coke aluminium can and shaking it. u can only hear when u open the window and the surrounding is quiet or in an enclosed area like a parking lot.

any advise from u guys.....izit normal. its killin me!!!

well...in all honesty..if your definition is lacking, you might have a bad wheel bearing, wouldn't sound like a pinging perse, but it'd have a mechanical sound, or even a grind....when you accelerate do you feel anything in the pedal? if you get a constant tap-like feeling like a tap that feels almost like the speed of the wheel revolutions, that's most likely what it is....

nope nuthin from the pedal. i am quite sure the sound is coming from the engine bay area. oh ya according to the service center, the sound is probably the injectors sound. izit possible ??? the weird sound only comes
when the car is moving though......

ugh....headache

Simple test is run the fuel low and then put in .25 to .5 tank of premium gas and see if the noise goes away.

That will help if the noise is preignition.

Honda uses a fairly hard material for the valve seal, and it is normal to hear a slight sound from this. I would say you can hear it with the window down and the radio off, it will be a slight tick. Nothing to worry about, but if you can hear with the windows up and the radio on, then you have a probelm.

check your spark plugs. that sound is not normal. but it seems like you're describing alternator whine where the tone gets higher as the rpm goes up. if you hear the sound metal makes when it hits, then there's a problem.

causes of detonation
-lean a/f
-low octane fuel
-improper ignition timing
-carbon deposits
-excessive head milling (hi compression)

causes of preignition
-plug too hot of a heat range
-plug not tight enough
-detonation
-excessive valve guide clearance/improper seal
-overheating

Other problems occur when the plug gap is wrong, anything that raises the temperature like advancing ignition timing, raising compression, platinum plugs run hotter than copper, etc.

errr.....for mine the tone did not get higher as the rpm goes up. it just stays the same and sometimes the engine sound will drown the weird sound.

the service guy says the injector sound might be escapin from the open area near the fender as per pic below. (darn...can't post any pic until i reach 15 post. any other way ?? )

well i am still not entirely convinced but am hoping dat it is normal......
