Cam Gear=Bad revving?
Ok so recently i got the Aem Cam gear. I hadn't adjusted it but one day out of curiosity i just advanced it 2 degrees. I didn't really notice any difference except the way the car would rev. If i floored the car to rev it at the start it would kinda bog then take off and stop at 5 and then go to the redline. Well my question is, is this supposed to happen and does anyone else have this problem?

um dude I had mine set at 2 degrees advance. It had good pickup and i took it all the way to redline. I got a vid too if you want. Everything was smooth and it kept going in second. But I was at the dyno today, they first did +2 adv and then 0, there was pretty much no difference. The torque stayed the same. Then they started retarding it, hp went way up and torque went down slightly (1-2wtq). They ended up leaving it at -1.5degrees retarded (they said the milled head is prolly equal to another 0.5degrees retard). so its around 2 total. I don't know your setup, but aren't you supposed to retard the timing for boosted cars?? Well for mine they said -1.5 retard was best. you know this but SOHC is a tradeoff between torque and hp when adjusting the gear. They said at -1.5 there was enough extra hp to justify the loss of torque upto 3.5k rpms.

ya his reasoning was honda motors are always hi-rev and not designed to make alot of torque. So when it was advanced, the torque only went up a little, and hp stayed the same. then when he retarded it, torque was lost, but there was much more hp being made above 5k. I think this would be true for most na modded civics with basic boltons.

well it feels better in the middle cause with your setup, it balances between tq and hp. majinb i can't tell you exactly but did you see my last dyno with exhaust and the cam gear? I gained 10whp at 6800rpm. thats not all from the exhaust. cam changes on a stock civic are around 2-3whp at best. maybe more with other mods.
