Hot exhaust clicking noise

Is it me, or does my car's exhasut gets really hot. After i drive everytime i hear a click click click noise comming from the CAT or somewhere around there. Then recentlly l looked down and its was like hot enfough that the stainless steal started changing colours. Kind of like a Ti exhast does when it gets hot. Since i am becoming an aircraft mechanic, i wipped out my handbook to identify stainless steel colours and blue wasnt on it, but red and other colours were.

Is everyone's car like that or i have a bad case of hot cat.

btw its an 05 civic lx-g sedan.

Yep. This is normal. The catalytic converter reaches temperatures high enough to cause blueing of stainless steel. And yes, blueing is a scientific term. The pinging is just the catalytic converter and pipes contracting as they cool.
