Weird Squeak...
Weird Squeak...
Hey Guys/Ladies
Well today I decided to go get new tires for my car. I got the Toyos T1Rs installed then went and got alignment done. On the way home I noticed that my rear drum brake was squeaking. I dunno why either...it seems that when the brake pedal depresses...it squeaks...if it depresses quickly the squeak is short, if it depresses slowly the squeak is long.
Does anyone know what is causing this?

I have the same thing and my last car did it too. It is caused by something in the rear drums. I used to think it was caused by weak return springs and when I had the drum hardware replaced, the noise stopped. But came back a short time after. It isnt any cause for concern as the brakes will still operate as normal. Just turn up the radio.
Wow, that worked really well. I didn't completely follow the procedure in the thread above. I just bought a couple of cans of brake cleaner, then sprayed the heck out of the entire assembly. Those brakes haven't seen the light of day all ~90,000 miles, so there was a lot to come out. Just after that, the squeak was a little better when releasing the e-brake.
Then, I smeared one packet of disc brake caliper anti squeal compound all over the moving parts, especially on the top, where the pad holder touches the back plate.
I smeared about .25 oz between the two rear drum assemblies. The sound was much better, but still audible when releasing the e-brake. We figured that was the best we could do, and with the drum and wheel back on, we couldn't hear a thing, especially from inside a running car.
Good Luck!
