Rep Power: 0 SRS Side Airbags Light
Its happened a few times that the Side Airbag light goes off when the front passenger unbuckles the seat belt and opens the door. Has this happened to anyone? If so I need your help.

Rep Power: 0 The dealership replaced one of my seat belts because of the same problem. I don't know for sure if it would deploy due to one of the sensors being out of wack. Definitely take it in and have it checked out.

Rep Power: 0 Hey Importracer, I tried what you said for a few times but nothing happened. One thing i'm sure of is that it's an intermittent thing. So far, it has only happened a few times, next time it happens, I'll bring it in. I'l take DHOWPB's advise
Thanks

Rep Power: 0 Mine has been staying on for about 2 months now..I haven't taken it to the dealer yet. It will go out when someone sits in the passenger seat, but stays on when the seat is empty.. any ideas on that?

Rep Power: 0 A guy at my work has been having the same problem.. every time he took it to honda they sort of brushed it off,. but now they tell him to come in everytime it stays on b/c they have to reset the sensor or something. He said they told him there is going to be some sort of letter issued to people having to problem to come in and have it fixed at some point,. *shrug*

Rep Power: 0 I recently found out while reading the owners manual that it is normal if the "Side Airbag Off" sign turns on. It means that the system automatically turns the side airbags off it it senses something on its pth if it ever deploys.
Try this one out, put some weight on the seat back near the edge of the side airbags and the light will turn on.
If it stays on, something is really wrong.

Rep Power: 0 actually, my light went on a while ago. i took it into the dealer and they told me it was becuase my cellphone signal causes the light to come on. so they reset it for me...and a few days later...pops up again. i haven't bothered taking it in just to get it reset. but my 10k maintenance is up..so i'll remind them of it

Rep Power: 0 Does anybody think its possible that the amp 12v wire could be interfering with it? My 12v runs through the center console and under the seat near the plugs for the airbag. I can't think of anything else that is causing it.

Rep Power: 0 If you're talking about the "SRS off" lights, my dealer told me that when someone in the passenger seat is sitting with all their weight to the right side, or if you put a bookbag on the right side of the passenger seat or something, that that light will go on because when someone is leaning to that side the airbag will hurt them if it goes off. If this isn't what you were talking about, then sorry for wasting your time

Rep Power: 0 SpacemanBob: yeah that's sort of what's going on..I think the only thing is most of the people (me included) on this post are having the light come on without anybody(thing) in the seat. Thanks for the info, though

Rep Power: 0 << My light comes on when you lean to the side with the airbag. That is messed up
Bill
B&B Performance Parts >>
its really not messed up, its like that to protect the person in the seat because the airbag can do more harm than good if someone is leaning into its path

Rep Power: 0 Yeah, I noticed that if I throw my briefcase on the seat and it is leaning into the door, the light goes on often. I guess Honda decided that since many passengers got to sleep leaning into the door that it would be a GOOD THING if the side airbag didn't deploy at 100+ mph and slam someones heat into the space between the headrest and door frame!
Of course if you have a malfunctioning sensor, thats a different kettle of fish.

Rep Power: 0 i haven't heard any answer to this issue:
the side airbag light stays on all the time and goes off when somebody sits in the passenger seat. I know alot of people were having this problem, so could anybody shed any light on the issue or tell us what happened when you took the problem to the dealer? Is it something I can fix myself, or will I have to take it to Honda?
Thanks,
Eric

Rep Power: 0 MB, i mis-read, thought you were talking about w/ someone in the seat!
It's designed to sense light passengers as well as people leaning to the side. It sounds like you might just have a bad sensor that thinks an infant is in the seat when no one is there...
I'd take it back to the dealer and have them replace it. If that doesn't work call honda to report it. then wait for them to figure it out (they usually lag about 6 months behind a problem discovery.
I have not heard of any fix other than replacement for bad sensors.
But most of the people complaining don't realize when it is working..........
