7443 & 7440 bulb the same??

i ordered a bulb to replace the rear tailight for bulb 7440 but they said that 7443 is the same as 7440 and replaces it but whenever i put the bulb in and test it i keep blowing a fuse. its for the turn signal by the way. the stock bulb has like a black clip attached to the bulb but the one they sent (7443) does not have one. i feel so frustrated

Not te same. 7443 is dual filament for our front parking/turn signal. 7440 is single filament for rear signals and sedan reverse lights.

skjinx is an unknown quantity at this point
7443 if used in turn signals will only light up if you put your turn signals on. It doesn't stay on if your headlights are on.

7440 stays lit if you turn on your headlights.

Sorry but you have it backwards. 7443 is the one with dual filaments.

My bad, yea, 7443 is the dual filament for turn signals. I kept thinking otherwise because of these GE bulbs I bought for my turn signals that stay lit up while my headlights are on, and I replaced them with the bulbs that I bought from those visionbulbs.com people. 7440 is what shows on the GE box though. The visionbulbs don't say what they are.

I can only see a difference in that the bulb is smaller sized and has sort of a seperate plastic housing on the bottom as compared to the regular GE bulb.

Re: 7443 & 7440 bulb the same??

you need to make modifications. a 7440 can fit in a 7443 socket but you need to grind down the glass knubs on the bulb with dremel. im not sure about the other way around. i dont know why you would want to fit a dual filament bulb in the reverse lights. just use a 7440 (or 921 for coupes).
