Downshift by mistake
Downshift by mistake
Hi everyone, i got a question for you guys and gals.
today i was driving back from work on the highway at about 90km/h (65mph) and noticed rpms were unusually high for this speed (i got auto) about 3000rpm or so, so i took a look at my AT and it was in D3, i figured out i have to switch it to D, so i took my eyes off AT and i was so damn sure D position is one back from D3, but it was one up, so instead i switched it into 2
, so my car jerked quite violently, rpms jumped to 5000 and it wasnt nice, i realized i was retarded and changed it to D.
well my question is - could that downshift screw up my engine, everything works fine after that, just wondering if it could potentially lead to serious engine/transmission problems?
thanx a lot.

Naaaa.......
5000 isn't hurting the engine unless you decide to drive it like that all the time.
Now REVERSE would have been a whole different story.

here's a hint, you dont have to press the shift button when going from neutral to D to D3
the shifter can be pushed back and forth from N to D to D3
i think the reason this can happen is because if your car stalls on the road, you can put it into neutral to restart the engine w/o ever having to take your eyes off the road
