I am having a strange little problem. I park my car outside, and when it freezes outside my doors will not open. If I work the key in the lock for a while, I can get the door open, but only if I hold the key over in the unlock position as I open the door. Once inside, if the door is shut you can't pull the lock plunger up, and therefore the inside door handle will not open the door. The only way to get out is to roll the window down and use the key from the outside, again holding it all the way unlocked as you open the door.

I drive about 30 minutes to work each day, and if I leave the heater on pretty high the whole way there it usually gets thawed out by the time I arrive.

Clearly, I am getting some moisture in the door and it is freezing some part of the lock/latch in place. Still. it hardly seems like this is something that should have to be dealt with. Has anyone else had this problem? More importantly, has anyone figured out a solution? Thanks!

My wife has the same prob on her sunbird. The is a moisture leak somewhere, the trick is to find where it is. I have been trying for a while and still cant find it on her car

Yeah, that has to be what it is. It is strange though, all the seals appear to be in good order. I should probably take the door apart, close it and hose it down to see if I can see any water come in...

I have that problem after I wash my car and it's really cold. What you can do to help, is heat up the key. Either use a lighter, or do what I do and just put the key in your mouth for a few seconds to get it warm so it'll poke through the ice. .

Sometimes you'll have to "warm" the key up a few times. Sounds stupid I know, but it's a quick solution instead of standing out there jacking with your key until your door opens and risking bending the key.
