Question 2008 r18 immobilizer question

Hi all, I've got an interesting one here 1974 vw beetle swaped with an r18a1 out of a 2008 civic. I've managed to intermix the two vehicles to the point that the r18 is ready to be fired up, ecu, harness ect is receiving power. However, I seem to have overlooked the immobilizer and seeing as the r18 is out of a junkyard car I no longer have access to I need to find a new key and sensor. I am aware that the sensor needs to be compatible with the ecu as well as the key. Just wondering if I can pickup a new sensor and have a lock Smith program a key for It or if I will need an ecu key and immobilizer all together. Any help is much appreciated.thanks

Re: 2008 r18 immobilizer question

You may need to talk to a locksmith. If it's similar to the 7th gen Civic it should just require programming the key to the ECU. You would need a functioning ignition switch/key set and have the immobilizer ring connected and working as well.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd love to see pictures of this thing.

Re: 2008 r18 immobilizer question

Thanks, I'm planing on picking up an immobilizer ring today and I'll see if can grab a key as well I'm not sure if old keys can be programed to a used ecu or if I need a new key from the locksmith. I don't have Tons of pictures but I'll certainly posy some when she's running I know forsure that the engine will hang out of the back of the car like the old vw dune bugies when I put the body back on😂

Re: 2008 r18 immobilizer question

I'm not 100% sure on this but I was told that the immobilizer pickup sensor (around the ignition) had to match either ecu or is it the key signal that needs to match? I've got a line on a few parts cars but I'd rather not buy another ecu just to match it to an immobilizer because I'm in school and by no means made of money 😂

I'll be sure to post some photos/videos sooner then later

Might be worth a call to the dealer, they might know what can and can't be programmed.
