Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Hey guys. I managed to replace the ac compressor and dryer but it’s still not working properly, but that will come later as it’s second to getting the “misfire” fixed.
my trip home to Vegas for the holiday there were NO issues. 8 hour drive no misfires, no issues. The initial trip to Utah the misfire popped up more than 10 times and gave the p300 (general misfire) p0301 p302, p303 p304
But on my trip back to Utah it bogged down and the blinking cel came on 3 different times. I checked the cel and gave the same 5 codes as above.
I changed the plugs and there’s new coil packs on there too after the first trip.
there’s no Honda dealer in this little town so I’m tryin to figure it out.
My mechanic in Vegas said it could be the ECU/pcm goin out.
but wanted to see what u guys think? thoughts? Ideas? Anyone ever had a similar situation?
thanks guys

Re: Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Potentially the problem. Grab a set from the junkyard. These cars don't like aftermarket electronics
Re: Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Well I talked to the shop who had it last and they went through their book or troubleshooting list and it came down to the egr valve and possible pcm main computer or brain issue. Providing of course the coil packs are functioning properly.
from what I understand, the odds of all coil packs misfiring is highly unlikely and most likely a symptom of another problem rather than the main culprit.
I would attempt some coils from junkyard but there aren’t any where I’m located. But how can I be certain they’re even Honda ones anyway?
Thanks guys

Re: Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Honda ones should say denso.
I forgot about the egr issues on these cars.
The passages on the intake manifold get clogged up and can cause misfires. See if you can disconnect the valve (the check engine light will come on) and see if it makes a difference

Re: Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
Can I drive the car with it disconnected?...... will it cause any issues besides the cel light coming on?
I’ll be driving about 3.5 hour drive comin up on Sunday. But that being said I drove 8 hours and it didn’t misfire once then a 2 hour trip it came on twice 🤷♂️
also, if I’m driving when it starts flashing, can I pull over and disconnect egr & if it is the egr valve would the misfire stop and the cell stop flashing?...... or is that a pointless strategy lol

Re: Unknown misfire?/ignition/electrical issue
I would just leave it disconnected until you can fix it. It's just an emissions thing
