Help on CEL codes...Updated: pictures + new ?

History: Car threw CEL when i was sitting in it at after school to head home. I reset the ECU and it went away. Next day, I started it up and as i was sitting there, it came back on...so here today:

So I borrowed the scanner from AutoZone, and I checked why my car was throwing the CEL

turns out these 4 codes showed up:

P0301: Cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0302: Cylinder 2 misfire detected
P0303: Cylinder 3 misfire detected
P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder misfire detected

...I remember reading about another member having similar codes...timing belt anyone? I just want your guy's opinions before I have it worked on...

timing belts expensive right?

.....................

please see post #4.

Question Why can't any one figure out whats wrong with the 02's...

I have posted to every one of these "MISFIRE" threads. No one case seem to diagnose it... From what I "HEAR" it's gona be a prosess of elimination for ya! I'll subscribe just to see what the admins says. This was the last one I subscribed to...http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...=247146&page=3

But this probily wont be the last post on this PROBLEM. O' I have an 02 with 55,000 MI and a misfire code every single day! Thanks to my OBD2 code reader I just erase the code and read these threads... My injectors look like that also but mines on cylinder 4 not 3...

Mine was caused by a blow head gasket. I replaced it and the misfiring went away.
I changed the plugs, I cleaned the injectors, I tested the coil packs. It was the headgasket. Is your civic boosted buy any chance, or are you running an emanage?
from my experience if the emanage is hooked up not using the dezod harness, I have noticed alot of people with random cylinder misfires.

my friend said oil could've gotten in there...he said a head gasket would've spread to all cylinders. he's leaning towards a piston ring. but he said my best bet is to have honda look at it. so i've got an appointment tomorrow to have them take my left leg off so they can look at my car.

yeah well my CEL went away so i didn't bother to bring it to honda this morning. i'm planning on picking up another one of those coil packs to see if the discoloring will show back up after some driving.

i hope this was just a one-time fluke.

It's not a fluke YOUR CEL WILL COME BACK IMO... I throw a misfire code every day and it comes back. Bet yours will too.

OK, I've read all the thread and the ones that were associated and I came up with a conclusion that the timing belt might be slipped for one or two dents. But in this case, you should feel a slight loss of HP.

mine was also head gasket. check the coils with a multimeter to see if they all have similar resistance. mine are all brown and smell like gas (and they all work fine). but stuff like headgasket shouldn't be happening.

well apparently they couldn't tech the car with the "aftermarket" plugs i put on there from wal mart. anyway, they asked if i had them, because if i didn't they were gonna charge me a very cheap price of $21 per oem plug.

well my car was throwing 1,2,3 misfires only...when they did it, 1 through 4 was reading. so i bring the stock plugs back there and they put them back on, road tested the car for 15 miles and then no more codes.

it's been about a week now and no codes...what'd they do? i was wondering if they just deleted the code. if they just delete the code will it show up again if it's misfiring?..or because they deleted it, the ecu doesn't bother throwing the CEL anymore.

weird.

see thats the thing. it has been a week and it's not coming back on. what could they have possibly done to keep it from not throwing anymore...cuz if it's still throwing the code but it's just being suppressed, then i want to know.

my friend said reset the ecu and see if it comes on again, should i?

Question

Every time I change my plugs (changed them 3 times under 60,000miles) it helps for "X" amount of time then one average day out of the blue "****" CEL is on

The only help I got was from (streetglower) I think that's his screen name . He told me it would be a process of elimation! Plugs, coil pack, valve adjustment, fuel, etc...

good luck!
