Honda Civic Locked up

I own a 2012 Honda Civic Ex. 1.8 L L4 SOHC 16V Engine. Every so often when I start this car it is hard to start. But just before it does start all the lights ( the lights that indicate things, like engine, transmission etc.) come on on the dashboard then the steering wheel locks and so does the gear shift which wont move out of the park position. But the engine is running!!! I have to wait 10 15 minutes then the car starts right up and is operable however the lights on the dashboard stay on but eventually turn off and everything runs the way it should. Anyone else ever have this happen ???

Re: Honda Civic Locked up

you are not getting enough electrical power. (voltage fluctuations cause havoc on electronics and are the signs for electrical storage/supply/control problems).
which of them is... need your work to solve...

did you remove/re-tighten battery connections?
Did you check if not damage to the cables?

after that, did you check if battery is holding power? Or if alternator is charging?
etc, etc, etc

This is what Colin meant. A visual inspection will rarely yield anything.

Battery terminals wear out over time. It's not uncommon for them to need replacing or come loose.

Re: Honda Civic Locked up

This wire is under the air filter housing.

I traced this positive battery terminal to this wire that is frayed and a small portion of the wire is exposed. Might this be the cause of the problem I am having with my car??

Re: Honda Civic Locked up

Any body know what this wire is called. It looks like it has those slide in snap type of connectors.

Re: Honda Civic Locked up

very small, not likely cause, just check if properly connected and use electrical tape to isolate frayed wires from metallic parts of car.
have you checked battery/charging system?
If you are not familiar, car part stores can check it for you
