Window Regulator Help
Window Regulator Help
My son just bought a 2002 Civic EX coupe and when he went to move it, the drivers side window just fell down. We read that is not uncommon and related to the regulator. So we took the door panel off and looked down into the regulator - the cable is not snapped, it just looks loose and like one of the springs is floating free. Is there any way to just wind the cable back on to the regulator? Or do we need to buy a new regulator?
Thank you for the help!
Also - is there a special glue we will need to re-attached the water barrier plastic to the door panel?

Re: Window Regulator Help
Just buy a new regulator. If the glue is no longer holding the vapour barrier you can just tape it down.

Re: Window Regulator Help
Oh yeah, much easier to replace the whole regulator assembly than to try and fix it. Same deal happened in my friend's mom's Pilot. I told her the part number and she got it, I installed it. With it off the car, I tried to fix it, just in case it happens again. There was no saving the thing.
Regarding the vapor barrier. the adhesive they use is the same stuff they use on windshields and headlights. Carefully cut just the adhesive to separate it (I used a utility blade), and heat it up when you go to put the vapor barrier back on. Heating it will make it soft and pliable, and it'll re-stick no problem. I would just heat up the stuff still attached to the door and I'd get good adhesion anyways. Didn't wanna melt the plastic vapor barrier
