Clunk on bump [solved]

I have a 2014 Civic with a clunking sound on the passenger side on most bumps that's been going on for about a year now. I had it looked at by my local garage who told me it was my shock. I replaced the shocks and it still did it so I reinstalled the original shock and tested it and it's not loose. Recently, another sound started from the driver's side. Then I checked into it and discovered a very small clicking sound when I turned the shock and realized the bolt wasn't completely tightened. Thus, I tightened it and it went away. I assumed I didn't tighten enough when I reinstalled them. Therefore, realizing such a small sound made a big impact and now determined to find the passenger side noise again. I tried moving all connecting parts with my crowbar and think I hit on my rear spring. It made a sound just like when I hit bumps after I was able to move it with my crowbar. So a stupid question is, I'm assuming those springs should be seated well without play, correct? The rubber dampers seem a bit loose as well. Should they be seated without being able to move? What are the possibilities of the springs wearing out compared to the rubber mounting dampers? Should I replace everything anyway just to conclude the noise? Any other input is appreciated.

Yes. I tried moving them with the crowbar and tried yanking them. Other than the slight pivot they normally provide, I could not get them to move any other way. Worse case, I could buy a pair for $35 just to ensure they aren't the issue.

You can just disconnect them and go for a drive to confirm if they are bad.

Didn't think of that. It won't damage anything for a brief spin?

re: Clunk on bump [solved]

Thank you all for your input. I rechecked the area and decided to do my best to yank, tug, snap, etc on the links and it made a sound just like I hear when driving. Therefore, I decided on the advice to remove and test. It was a bitch to remove since the allen head bolt stripped and I couldn't get the nut off. So I decided to cut them off with high hopes it's the culprit; if not, they are cheap enough to replace. I cut both ends and now have nothing. I went for a drive and normally I would hear it as soon as I backed out of my driveway but nothing. I hit every bump I could see and still no sound. All this time, over a year, I dealt with that driving me insane and it was the problem. I'm ordering a new set. Thank you all again for the help and advice.

I found best prices online. Is it ok to drive without it for a few days?
