Driveability issue
Driveability issue
Hoping to get a little help with a driveability issue. I have a 2010 civic coupe 1.8 manual. 87k miles. I will begin by mentioning that other than some recalls I have performed all work on this vehicle and driven every mile since I bought it new. Within the past few weeks there has been an intermittent grinding noise from the front right. Similar to metal on metal brakes. But it comes and goes which was already odd. Several days ago the grinding suddenly got worse and was then followed by a loud clunking under the floor in the middle and out toward the right front. Also, shaking in the steering wheel and abs activation when braking. After driving a bit it stops. It does this every time i drive. The brakes are about 1 year old all 4 wheels. In trying to find the issue I have pulled all 4 wheels apart and theres nothing out of sorts. I the cv axle was clicking and I already had one but was dragging my feet putting it in. I installed that despite that not really being a symptom just in case there was some wierd locking up internally causing it. Had no effect. Friend of mine actually had a new hub bearing and sensor which I installed as it was free anyway just in the off chance that would have some effect which it didn't. I should also mention the clunking, which causes noticeable pulling on the wheel as if you were tapping the brakes, happens without braking. It happens while coasting in neutral or in gear or while accelerating so it doesnt seem to be related to load. I have noticed that sometimes going over a bump will cause it. The loud grinding always happens right before while braking. Then all goes away again. Kind of stumped here as the only moving part left is the final drive of the trans which I wouldnt think would be so intermittent or somehow the abs system but that would require it to be activating without braking. Any idea would be appreciated. I am planning to pull the abs fuse and drive for a bit to see if that eliminates it.
