1.7l to 1.3l swap

I've got an 04 civic with the 1.7l vtec engine with a hole in the block, can I replace it with a 1.3l engine? I assume I would need an ecu at least or am in for trouble trying to swap that way 😅

Re: 1.7l to 1.3l swap

the hybrid engine? It have two spark plugs per cylinder (starts from there, many other differences)
the hybrid also have the electric motors to help push the car, yours don't. potentially will have similar mileage since you will need to punch throttle more
ECU will be looking for the electric powertrain but it is not there, forecast plenty of engine codes
complicated and not worth

why do you want to do it?

because I can get the engine for $150, just trying to not drive my diesel truck 20 miles to work each day and not wanting to spend a ton on a swap, cheapest 1.7 ive been able to find was around $1600.

Where are you looking? You can get a JDM D17a with like 50k miles for $900. I would expect a regular D17a1/2 would cost $500.

Mostly local junkyards and Facebook, online wasn't much better. I want to keep the engine around $500 but the cheapest I could find was 1200 with 170k miles not 1600 🤥

I refuse to believe that anything junkyard can't be had for anything more than like $400. Find a totaled car and pull the engine from that.

what is the engine you are looking for? Is it from a Hybrid?
that is sounding like it could balloon pretty fast into the 2k range to fit that engine
