Enigne swap

Hey there everybody. I'm replacing the engine in my 01 Civic LX and I am shopping around for a new engine. However, I am looking for something with a little more power than the D17A that came in it. I would like to have something with VTEC and DOHC. Am I going to need to replace the transmission for that type of upgrade?

Re: Enigne swap

you would need a B18C or a H22A engine both have vtec and are dohc. most likely you would need a new transmission.

this is a combo with the gsr tranny

btw the DIY section is only for people to show how do do something not ask questions in. your post belongs in the advance engine performance and swaps section

Not quite correct; b and h series engines are illegal to swap into 7th gens, unless you swap a 2001 engine into a 2001 chassis, which is theoretically possible in this case. The issue is that no one makes swap parts for those engines, you'd need make your own mounts and wiring harness as well as working out all the little details. It would become extremely expensive unless you are a skilled mechanic and metal worker.

The OP would need to swap in a k-series engine, and swap a k-series trans as well.

btw, OP, you have a d17a1 not a d17a.

Thank you!

I'm getting tired of moving 10 threads a day out of DIY articles.

Unless youre a master fabricator then do a b or h series swap. But k swap would be best. Thats gonna run you about 6000 if not more. Vtec head swap 500 ish. Nitrous 1000. Turbo 2000. N/a build 1000.

Re: Enigne swap

Random dumb question but why is it illegal to put a b series or h22 in your 7th gen?

Re: Enigne swap

Emissions - an engine cannot be older than the chassis it's being installed in.
