01 to 05 engine and trans swap [closed]

I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX VTEC I had it parked on the street someone rear-ended it so my idea is to take a 2005 civic ex vtec

2001

2001

2005

2005
that I purchased with a blown engine and drop the engine and trans together by the subframe out of my 2001 and install it in the 2005 if I remove everything from the 2001 engine bay and put it in the 2005 engine bay is this compatible completely If someone knows for sure let me know I would hate to get Knee Deep in grease and parts just to find out I have to start all over

re: 01 to 05 engine and trans swap [closed]

moved to proper section. Read around that section, most your questions are already answered
what are the mileage of both? might be better to keep trans on the least mileage one
auto? manual?
need to consider which ECU to keep. 01 have narrow band sensors, 05 have wide band and ECU need to be the proper one
a manual ecu will not understand an auto trans either.

OK, your profile says the 01 is manual, is the 05 manual too?

Yes they're both manual transmissions the 2001 has 40000 on the engine and twenty thousand on the transmission I just put them in couple months ago the 05 I don't have any idea about other than the mileage reads 182 000 I was just trying to make sure that everything will line up mount wise

40k vs an 185k?
recommend 01 power train entirely, yes.
Use the 05 wiring, they should be same except that it uses the wideband o2 sensors. Also, if you change the ECU, the keys are programmed to the ECU - you would need to change the ignition, door/trunk locks to the corresponding ECU
Still not enough to change timing belt (100k miles). Clutch was OK?

what will you do with the 01 after the transplant?
if you intend to send to the wrecker to scrap, recommend keeping some of the troublemaker parts in with you.
  • alternator (aftermarket ones are known for not working well with Hondas...)
  • a/c compressor (pretty common issue part too, good to keep one as spare)
  • ECU - loose alternator bolts fries them a lot. keep keys/ignition and door/trunk locks with the ECU - you might even be able to sell them
  • engine head if you wish, although with the used JDM engine market, they are not as rare anymore
  • exhaust header (stock EX are quite well designed, many DX/LX owners might be interested in it)

So the 05 isn't vtec but I just put the 01 with 40000 in and the trani with 20000 as well I'm in the process of swaping them to the 05 now and plans for the 05 are to rebuild it and make it even faster than it was before

re: 01 to 05 engine and trans swap [closed]

the 05 ECU will throw a VTEC code, since ECU thinks it is there.
you can transfer the 05 head, but would recommend having it checked for evenness in a shop and timing belt/headgasket replaced while at it
Those are easier to do when the engine is out of the car!!!

Re: 2005 motor swapped to a 2001 car

When I put the transmission in I also changed timing belt, water pump, clutch, flywheel, rear main seal, valve cover gasket, oil, transmission fluid, spark plugs, coils, all 4 motor and tranni mounts, vtec solenoid, struts, ball joints, tie rod inner and outer, sway bar links, front and rear wheel baring, and aside from the master cylinder and complete new brake system oh and new clutch master and slave cylinder, crank shaft sensor, all 3 temperature sensors and had to pretty much rewire the entire engine bay of the car... I went with a stage two clutch, ngk iridium spark plugs, genuine honda manual transmission fluid, and since the transmission swap ive been using royal purple 5w20 with 1quart of Lucas full synthetic oil stabilizer every 3000 miles on the dot, and
