Rep Power: 0 Non Vtec to Vtec swap
I have a 04 civic with a 1.7 non Vtec bought a jdm 1.7 Vtec to replace due to lower end knock I’ve read some stuff that says not to bad of a swap was wanting some info on what exactly is needed seen you can run a aftermarket controller to run the Vtec instead of buying a new harness and ecu any info would be much appreciated

Re: Non Vtec to Vtec swap
Personally I would ignore the vtec part until after everything is done and running.
Generally your better off swapping the entire intake between them as well as your timing belt/water pump. You should also strongly consider doing a head gasket replacement.
Replacing front/rear/oil pump seals makes a lot of sense at this point as well.
As I was saying, the little extra high rpm boost bonus of vtec is the last thing you need to worry about deciding how your going to do it, getting everything else working first.
