Turbo project questions

What's up EM2 or rather 7th Gen Family!?

Long time reader, new poster, sorry if I am posting in wrong section.

EM2 d17 turbo project currently in the works and I need your help friends!

Looking at:
- Hondata KPRO RSX 5 SPEED w/ CAM GEAR
- Larger Fuel Injectors (I need help, which do I get and are they a direct replacement?)
- Do I need a new Fuel Injector Rail?
- Upgraded Fuel Pump (Not sure what to look for, I see a few in the $40 - $60 range)
- Intake Manifold (Some people say the plastic intake manifold for the d17 can take up to 15psi but do not recommend over 10psi due to the plastic warping)
I might just keep the stock intake manifold, cheapest cast iron intake manifold is $500 and I am already way over budget on my EM2...**** adds up lol)
- Turbo Kit has everything but downpipe (Only downpipe I could find was one that gets rid of the catalytic converter, don't know how loud that is going to be on my custom catback setup w/ silencer)

Any input at all would be greatly appreciated!

Peace

Re: New to Forums

  • - Larger Fuel Injectors (I need help, which do I get and are they a direct replacement?)
    • RSX-S injectors are a drop in (same electrical connectors and everything). Forgot how much boost they'll support up to. I know they're about 90-100cc/min higher flowrate than OEM. They are a bit taller than d17 injectors, so you'll have to account for that (longer bolts, spacers, etc). I have a set that's been laying around if you wanna go that route. IIRC, OEM is 230cc, RSX-s is 320cc. Otherwise, Deatschwerks injectors have been the go-to for higher flowrate injectors. WRX ones, methinks. Also, look into converting to a return-style fuel system with a good FPR, depending on how much boost you're intending on running.
  • - Upgraded Fuel Pump (Not sure what to look for, I see a few in the $40 - $60 range)
    • Walbro 255lph has been the pump of choice in the D17 world. About $100 last I checked. Currently $85 on Amazon
  • - Intake Manifold (Some people say the plastic intake manifold for the d17 can take up to 15psi but do not recommend over 10psi due to the plastic warping)
    • Custom might be the way to go. Either that or a D16Y8 mani retrofit. That 10-15psi "limit" does sound about right.
  • I might just keep the stock intake manifold, cheapest cast iron intake manifold is $500 and I am already way over budget on my EM2...**** adds up lol)
    • You right tho. lol
  • - Turbo Kit has everything but downpipe (Only downpipe I could find was one that gets rid of the catalytic converter, don't know how loud that is going to be on my custom catback setup w/ silencer)
    • idk if Random Technology is still in business, but they made the best aftermarket downpipe for the D17, catted, no less. Ran that with a boosted d17a2 back in the day. Then again, the turbo setup I had, the exhaust outlet was made to mate up with the OEM DP

@piano55man has a lot more recent experience with D17 boosting than I do.

Lastly,
Thanks!
So the RSX-S Injectors should be good for like 9psi of boost huh?

For the fuel pump what do you think about this? It's super cheap and the knockoff Walbro one is like $8 cheaper than this one:

It should be good right?

The OEM SRT-4 injectors? Is it plug and play?
