Control arm clunk?
Control arm clunk?
Hi got a 05 civic lx. Runs and drives good. Motor mounts check out. I had to replace one because it was messed up bad. When I Rock car back and forth the motor moves but it moved a normal amount (just to narrow down to control arm maybe)
anyways, if I jab the brake. Not like hard. But get on the brake. There is this quite loud clunk. Super noticeable at low speed. And my steering wheel moves a touch. I also pull yo the right quite hard. And when I go over a speed bump, it clunks
got a lot of new suspension stuff. But the control arms looks to have done dry rotting.
Tie rods ends and sway bar end links check out too. I almost just might replace a bunch of suspension stuff. Need an alignment anyways
I was almost suspecting steering rack. But I totally forgot control arms exist. Also it has a squeak sometimes too. It only squeaks off throttle ( when engine is pushed forward toward front of car essentially). Very odd phenomenon

Re: Control arm clunk?
The control arm bushings (usually the front ones) can completely detach from the center bolt which will cause clunking noises usually over bumps. This would be easy to spot, post some pics if you need help.
Old struts can also make noises. What about the ball joints?

Re: Control arm clunk?
It has a lot of new suspension components , including struts. The control arm looked a bit dry rotted but I didt think much of it
im thinking of buying 100 kit, comes with control arms, sway bar end links and both tie rod ends, good reviews too.
ball joints are good too, i fricked with them a little and no play

Re: Control arm clunk?
It would be best to actually find what's wrong first. Jack up the front end and start looking. If it's causing the pull to the right when braking it should be fairly noticeable. Forward control arm bushings would be easy to tell if they are bad. Again, post some pics if you're not sure.
You sure the pull to the right isn't a faulty left front caliper?
