Caliper Rubbing Wheel Ballast after Brake Job
Caliper Rubbing Wheel Ballast after Brake Job
Hey, I was changing the front brakes and rotors on my 2003 Civic (LX) and when I went to put the tire back on, I noticed that the wheel ballast (located near the outside edge) was rubbing on the caliper slide. This was clearly not the case before (the weights did not look scraped or damaged prior to this), and I'm not sure what would have caused this, as I didn't remove the slide to change out the brakes.
I took everything back apart, the caliber off the backing plate and then reseated the pads in the brake hardware/slide. I also tried tightening and rotating the slide bolts to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't. I'm a little bit at a loss as to what could have shifted to cause this change as it doesn't look like there's any adjustment possible on the assembly.
Anyone know what could be causing this, or if it's a common problem?

If the wheel has sticky weights that are now hitting the caliper, peel them off so wheel can be installed and the car driven, and then go to the shop to have the wheel rebalanced (and make sure the new weights don't contact the caliper)

Yeah, they are nonstandard wheels (alloy rims that were previously on a 95 Civic EX that we no longer own). My dad didn't remember ever encountering this problem before so it wasn't really clear why we were having it now, but I suppose this is also the first time we've changed to rotor as well as the pads.
The car can be driven with the scraping (it's just *that* much too extended) but it makes an awful noise and some very slight transfer to the steering wheel as well. I was kinda hoping the weight would scrape down quickly from the friction since it's much softer metal than the caliper.
