Hello all,

I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX with a 1.7l engine. When I am idling sometimes I hear a fast rattling/ticking noise, but not always, seems to be on or off. However when I turn the wheels full lock the sound returns. When I come to a hard stop the noise comes back as I am stopping.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Thanks!

I would guess an exhaust heat shield is loose and rattling.

Or front brake rotor dust shields came loose from corrosion.

Yeah when I crank steering full lock (putting a load on engine using power steering pump) it makes a ticking noise, sounds like it’s coming from valve cover area. Bad sign.

no loss of power though, drives fine too.

open hood and start inspecting. Screwdriver works as stetoscope

I had the same symptoms hear recently. Might not be the same cause though. Mine ended up being the air cleaner not being tightened all the way
