I put a new engine in car, when I hooked THE SHIFT linkage up the lever on transmission moved. Well I hooked UP EVERYTHING, now when I put it in gear , it's make a grinding noise.
do I have to reset the linkage on transmission and rehook the cable ??

You shouldn't have to reset anything as long as everything hooked back up properly. You did get the shift cable hooked back up to the trans shift lever and then the cable bracket bolted back down to the trans, right?
