Problems after swap
Problems after swap
Hello I have a 2002 Honda Civic ex automatic transmission with 130,000 miles. I have recently replaced just the motor with a jdm d17a2 and I'm experiencing some big issues and looking for your insight.
1.Swap was completed and car ran great, but gear selector would no longer come out if park without releasing the lock on the left of it with a screwdriver.
2. Two days of driving later my shift linkage broke at the transmission side tension clip. It wasn't the wire that snapped it was the black plastic block that slid into the bracket to keep tension on the line. I will add a picture with where the break occurred but I no longer have the broken part so the part in the picture will not be broken.
3. Car is back in my garage so I went to pick n pull and got the shift linkage I needed from an identical Civic
4. I now have the linkage installed however now the dash park "p" does not light up in park, and I cannot get the key out of the vehicle.
5. When I unlock the gear selector it now feels a bit different sliding between gears AND the transmission doesn't actually catch any gear. I can start the car and rev (only to test) and sliding between gears does nothing.
That is where I currently stand. Ive been looking for ways to adjust the shift linkage forward or backwards to match what gear the selector says I'm in with the actual gear in the transmission. I feel this would alleviate the stuck in park and key stuck in ignition problem. What I don't understand is why my transmission won't attempt to catch a gear what so ever.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm saving what little i can to get this car fixed but as a full time UNR engineering student Im stuck with the tools in my garage and asking for help .Thank you.

Re: Problems after swap
where the shift cable attaches to the shifter is there not a nut that can be backed off to adjust the cable? there was on the 6th gens, shifter and trans had to be in neutral to remove the clip and perform adjustments
